“In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Jesus, in John 16:33

Some Christians will spend much of their lives in misery, in pain, in crushing poverty. Some will find trouble at every turn. Some will be martyred in horrific and cruel ways. Circumstances in this life will vary widely among followers of Christ.

But, our hope is not in THIS life. We’re not Christians in order to experience a fantastic life of leisure and plenty. Our living hope is in the next life, where (regardless of our circumstances in this life) we will spend eternity in the beautiful “sunrise” of God’s presence.

Almighty God, help me to remember John 16:33 in my times of trouble.
